LA to Malibu on a Single Charge

PCH at dawn with 72 volts and 80 miles of range. A ride report.

Departed the Arts District at 5:47 AM with a full charge — 80 miles indicated on the dash. The route: surface streets to the 10 freeway, north on PCH through Santa Monica, and up the coast to Point Dume. Round trip: 62 miles.

The first 15 miles through downtown and the westside are pure urban riding. Regenerative braking at every light actually added range — by the time I hit PCH, the estimated range had climbed to 84 miles.

PCH north of Santa Monica is where the GT Pro earns its keep. The road opens up, the corners come faster, and the instant torque out of sweeping right-handers is addictive. Zero drivetrain lag means you can apex late and power out with absolute confidence.

Returned to base with 31% battery remaining. Total energy consumed: 4.2 kWh. Cost at LA electricity rates: $0.84.
